Glyndebourne Festival’s season on a screen near you is now on sale. It begins on Tuesday 21 June with a performance live* from the 2016 Festival of Gioachino Rossini‘s sparkling and witty opera, Il barbiere di Siviglia.
This brand new production by Annabel Arden stars Glyndebourne favourite, Danielle de Niese, as the crafty Rosina who uses her many charms to get round her ageing guardian Dr Bartolo (played by the incomporable Alessandro Corbelli) to get her man – Count Almaviva (Taylor Stayton). The Count is aided and abetted by Figaro – the barber of the title – sung by Björn Bürger. The London Philharmonic Orchestra is conducted by Enrique Mazzola.
Barbiere is followed on Tuesday 12 July by a screening of a live recording of the 2011 production of Richard Wagner‘s Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg (The Mastersingers of Nuremberg) then on Tuesday 9 August, Hector Berlioz‘s Béatrice et Bénédict (Beatrice and Benedict) live* from the 2016 Festival.
*Please note that due to the 90-minute interval at Glyndebourne and the need to shorten the interval for cinema and online audiences a delay of approximately an hour is built into broadcasting the first half, which is made up in the second half.
